Dear Friend,
This has been a tough 48 hours for reproductive freedom but we remain vigilant and focused. In case you missed it, here’s the editorial that I wrote for the Orlando Sentinel focused on the Texas abortion ban and what we need to do in Florida to protect reproductive rights.
We also hosted a powerful emergency virtual meeting Thursday night with more than 200 people in attendance. If you missed it, you can re-watch our conversation and calls to action here. We were joined by Representative Donna Howard of the Texas State Legislature, too.
As I mentioned in my editorial and during our virtual event, the Supreme Court of the United States will be reconvening on October 4th,
and one of the cases on the docket is a 15-week abortion ban currently being litigated from Mississippi.
This, along with the six-week abortion ban in Texas and our own fights in Florida, compel us as Central Floridians to join national efforts and come together to protect abortion access for all.
That’s why on October 2nd at 11am we’ll be gathering at Orlando City Hall to rally for reproductive freedom. We’ll also be focused on voter registration and hear from phenomenal speakers including local advocates, providers and abortion storytellers. A short speaking program will take place from 11:30am to 12pm with a march set to begin at 12:00pm. RSVP here.
We are asking all attendees to practice COVID-19 safety prevention. That means wear a mask, keep a distance between yourself and others, and, if you haven’t done so already, get vaccinated. Based on local health recommendations, there is always a chance this event will be converted into a virtual event. Please click here to register to attend so we can keep you up to date on any changes.
Onward together,
Rep. Anna V. Eskamani
