Dear Friend,

To me, being American is a reflection of the sacrifices so many have made to call this country home.

My own family made that journey from Iran, chasing a simple but powerful idea: that in America, the circumstances of your birth don’t have to determine your future.

That belief carried them across an ocean, and it’s one reason why this daughter of working-class immigrants, raised right here in Orlando’s public schools, gets to serve in public office today.

The founders called us “a more perfect union” — an honest admission that we were unfinished from the very start. So when we fight for affordability, for freedom, for opportunity, for a democracy that works for all of us, that isn’t opposition to America. It’s our love for it.

This Fourth of July, I’m honoring every sacrifice that brought us here, and recommitting to the work of building an America worthy of them.

Happy Birthday, America.

Onward together,
