Orlando, FL: Today, the Supreme Court on Thursday cleared the way for the Trump administration to remove legal protections from thousands of Haitian and Syrian immigrants in the United States, meaning they could now be subject to deportation. The court, on a 6-3 vote on ideological lines, ruled in favor of the administration, which asked to continue with its plan to strip Temporary Protected Status from about 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians.
Here is Representative Dr. Anna V. Eskamani’s Statement in response:
“This decision is devastating—for Florida and for the country. Florida is home to the largest Haitian population in the United States, with an estimated 400,000 to 500,000 residents. Nearly half of all Haitian TPS beneficiaries nationwide live here, meaning that somewhere between 100,000 and 145,000 of our neighbors have been working, raising families, and building lives in Florida under the protection this Court just took away.
The Haitian community is woven into the fabric of our state, our economy, our schools, our caregiving workforce. This ruling will separate families and pull thousands of essential workers out of industries that depend on them. It is cruel, and it is economically self-defeating.
Let me be clear: my office will do everything we can to support those navigating this decision. To every Haitian and Syrian family in Florida who is frightened today: you are our neighbors, you belong here, and we will not abandon you.”

Orlando, FL: Jodi a, Tribinal Siprèm Etazini an te bay administrasyon Trump la otorizasyon pou retire pwoteksyon legal dè milye imigran Ayisyen ak Siriyen ki ap viv Ozetazini, sa ki vle di yo kapab kounye a fè fas ak depòtasyon. Tribinal la, nan yon vòt 6 kont 3 ki te swiv liy ideyolojik yo, te pran desizyon an an favè administrasyon an, ki te mande pou kontinye ak plan li pou retire Estati Pwoteksyon Tanporè (TPS) nan men anviwon 350,000 Ayisyen ak 6,000 Siriyen.
Men deklarasyon Reprezantan Dr. Anna V. Eskamani an an repons:
Kominote Ayisyen an fè pati fondamantal nan estrikti eta nou an, ekonomi nou an, lekòl nou yo, ak mendèv k ap bay swen nan kominote nou yo. Desizyon sa a pral separe fanmi yo epi retire dè milye travayè esansyèl nan sektè ki depann sou yo. Li mechan, e li pral fè ekonomi nou an sibi gwo konsekans negatif.
Mwen vle klè sou sa: biwo mwen an pral fè tout sa nou kapab pou sipòte moun ki ap chèche konprann epi navige konsekans desizyon sa a. Pou chak fanmi Ayisyen ak Siriyen nan Florid ki pè jodi a: nou se vwazen nou yo, nou gen plas nou isit la, epi nou pap janm abandone nou.”
