Orlando, FL: Last night a letter from the Board of Governors (BOG) to Florida Atlantic University (FAU) became public. In this letter, the BOG outlines bogus concerns with FAU’s presidential search and is attempting to freeze what has otherwise been a normal presidential search process. It’s important to note that it was rumored (and almost assumed) that Governor DeSantis ally Representative Randy Fine would become the President of FAU, but he was not listed as a finalist.
Below is Representative Eskamani’s statement in response:
“This is a gross overreach of the Board of Governors and 100% politically motivated. Florida is known to have some of the best universities and colleges in the country — that will not be the case if the state continues to demonize and degrade higher education. This latest action by the BOG is an insult and slap in the face to students, faculty, and alumni. As leaders in Florida we should respect our academic institutions and respect academic freedom.”
