Virtual Event to Focus on Building a State that Supports Women & Girls

Orlando, FL— This month Americans around the country are celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex.

Eskamani is joining forces with Representative Joy Goff-Marcil (D30), Representative Geraldine Thompson (D44), Representative Kamia Brown (D45) and Representative Amy Mercado (D48) to host a virtual town hall focused on building a state that serves all women and girls.

WFTV’s Karla Ray will be the event’s moderator. Details are below!

“It’s important to remember that equal suffrage was not a right secured for women, but rather a fight that women before us championed through marches, protests, hunger strikes, organizing, and coalition building,” said Representative Anna V. Eskamani. “When the 19th Amendment finally did pass in 1920 many women — in particular women of color — still faced barriers, and  could not vote. One hundred years later we have made incredible strides, but still have a long way to go.”
