LGBTQ PAC focused on gun reform makes endorsement in Florida’s House of Representatives Race
Washington, D.C., August 31, 2017 — Pride Fund to End Gun Violence PAC – America’s only national LGBTQ political organization focused solely on gun violence prevention – announced today its endorsement of Anna Eskamani in FL-47. Pride Fund endorsed Anna for her commitment to championing LGBTQ equality and her support of commonsense gun safety reforms.
“Anna has been a consistent and strong advocate for the disenfranchised, and has spent her career doing the right thing for Floridians,” said Jason Lindsay, Pride Fund Executive Director. “Gun violence in America is a public health crisis that Orlando is all too familiar with since last June’s tragedy at Pulse nightclub. Anna supports legislation requiring background checks for gun sales, and will support legislation prohibiting discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in education, employment, housing, and public accommodations.”
“Receiving the endorsement of the Pride Fund to End Gun Violence is both an honor and a reminder of purpose,” said Anna Eskamani. “Pulse Nightclub sits in House District 47 and each day I honor those who are no longer with us through action. My commitment to the LGBTQ community and gun safety policy is unwavering, and you can trust me to fight for equality while also pursuing strategic ways to reduce and prevent gun violence.”
The 47th House District of Florida was previously represented by Delegate Mike Miller, a Republican who announced last month that he would run for Congress. Miller will run in an attempt to unseat current Pride Fund-endorsed Rep. Stephanie Murphy of FL-07. Miller, whose office was across the street from Pulse Nightclub where 49 were killed and 53 others were wounded, has an A rating from the NRA and supported open-carry laws and allowing guns on college campuses.
“It’s time the Orlando community is represented in the state legislature by leaders who will keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people and stand up against the ugly face of hate,” said Lindsay. “We are proud to have played a pivotal role in Rep. Stephanie Murphy’s 2016 election, and we intend to ensure that this community that suffered such a tremendous tragedy is served by representatives who will keep them safe from gun violence and discrimination.”
Anna Eskamani represents the kind of leaders we need, who won’t prioritize the special interests of the gun lobby over the safety of the American people.
