As protests have continued in Iran against the Islamic Republic, Representative Dr. Anna V. Eskamani again expresses a statement of support:
“Today, I reaffirm my solidarity with the people of Iran, courageous individuals and families who continue to raise their voices for fundamental human rights, justice, and dignity in the face of relentless repression. Since late December 2025, mass demonstrations have swept across Iran in response to deep economic crises, systemic inequalities, and longstanding restrictions on basic freedoms. Millions have taken to the streets to call for accountability and meaningful change despite brutal tactics by security forces, including mass arrests, widespread violence, and restrictions on communication and internet access.
As reports indicate, the Iranian government’s crackdowns have resulted in thousands of deaths and tens of thousands of arrests, with independent observers and human rights organizations condemning unlawful use of force and continued suppression of dissent.
I stand with the Iranian people’s universal rights — the right to peaceful assembly, free expression, and the pursuit of a future free from fear and oppression. We must never forget that peaceful protest is a fundamental human right, and those who exercise it should be met with respect and protection, not brutality.
To the people of Iran: Your resilience inspires people around the world. Your calls for dignity, equality, and fundamental freedoms resonate far beyond borders, and I will continue to use my voice to elevate your struggle for human rights and justice. I join international efforts calling for an end to violence against peaceful protesters, the release of political prisoners, the restoration of unrestricted communications, and international accountability for abuses. The United States and the global community must continue to support the Iranian people’s aspirations for self-determination, democratic rights, and human dignity.”
Note: February 14th has been declared as an International Day of Protest for Freedom in Iran. Community members and supporters are encouraged to find an event near them.
