Dear Friend,

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and recommit ourselves to the work he called us to do: building a more just, compassionate, and connected community.

This morning, I had the honor of attending the Arthur “Pappy” Kennedy Prayer Breakfast. I was also grateful to be part of both Orlando’s and Eatonville’s Dr. King parades, standing alongside neighbors, community leaders, and families who keep Dr. King’s message of justice and unity alive.

Now, I’m on my way to the City of Orlando’s MLK Great Day of Service “Million Meal Pack” at the Orange County Convention Center. Thousands of volunteers are coming together to pack one million meals for families across Central Florida, because as Dr. King reminded us, “everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.”

Of course, the truest way to honor Dr. King is not only with parades or a single day of service, but by living his values every day. Choosing empathy over indifference, community over division, and action over apathy. That means standing up for fairness, showing up for one another, and doing what we can — big or small — to make our city and our state more just.

MLK Day is more than a commemoration. It’s a call to action. Whether you’re volunteering today, supporting a local nonprofit, checking in on a neighbor, or finding a new way to serve your community this week, I hope you’ll take a moment to reflect on how you can turn Dr. King’s values into practice, today and every day.

Onward,
