In recent weeks, people across Iran have taken to the streets in response to deepening economic hardship, political repression, and longstanding restrictions on civil liberties.  As demonstrations have spread across cities and provinces, it is important that everyday Americans express their support and solidarity for the people of Iran.

See below Representative Dr. Anna V. Eskamani’s Statement:

“We stand in unwavering solidarity with the brave people of Iran who are risking their lives to demand dignity, justice, and fundamental human rights. Across all 31 provinces, Iranians from diverse communities have taken to the streets to express their deep frustration with repression, economic mismanagement, and the lack of basic freedoms. Peaceful protest is a universal right. We condemn any violence used against civilians and call for accountability for all abuses. We honor the courage of activists, including women leaders and Nobel laureates who have faced imprisonment and harsh sentencing for speaking truth to power.

Support for these protests is a recognition that ordinary Iranians deserve the same freedoms and protections enjoyed by people everywhere: the right to speak freely, to assemble peacefully, to protest injustice, and to shape their own government. The international community must amplify the voices from within Iran and call for restraint, respect for human rights, and meaningful political reform. To all those in Iran and around the world who are advocating for “Freedom, Justice, and Equality,” your courage inspires us. We stand with you.”
