Orlando, FL: Today, the appellate court lifted the stay, meaning that this environmentally disastrous and inhumane immigrant detention camp will have the ability to reopen. Here is Representative Dr. Anna V. Eskamani’s statement in response:

“The decision to allow operations to resume at this reckless detention camp is shortsighted and dangerous. One of Governor DeSantis’ own Supreme Court appointees wrote this order, which absurdly suggests that a full environmental impact study might be needed—but only after the state applies for federal reimbursement. That means environmental damage to one of the world’s most unique ecosystems could already be done before anyone is even required to study it. This fight is far from over. We will continue to stand with Friends of the Everglades and all advocates in demanding accountability, insisting on environmental protections, and working toward the ultimate shutdown of this ill-conceived facility.”
