Orlando, FL: Pope Francis passed away earlier today at the age of 88. He died at 7:35 a.m. CEST at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta. Below is Representative Eskamani’s statement in response:
“Today, we mourn the passing of Pope Francis — a spiritual leader who inspired millions around the world with his message of compassion, humility, and justice. Pope Francis was a voice for the marginalized, a champion for peace, and a tireless advocate for the poor, immigrants, and our shared planet. His commitment to building bridges across differences and centering human dignity will remain a guiding light for generations to come.
As we grieve his loss, we also honor the profound legacy he leaves behind — one rooted in love, service, and hope. My thoughts are with Catholics around the world and all those who found strength and solace in his leadership. May his memory continue to inspire us to build a more just, inclusive, and caring world.”
