Happy Nowruz, Friend!
Nowruz, which translates to “New Day” in Persian, marks the beginning of the Persian New Year. It falls on the spring equinox and is celebrated by millions across the globe.
As a first-generation Iranian-American, Nowruz has a special place in my heart. Not only is it a holiday that I grew up celebrating with my family here in Orlando, but it signifies a time of renewal, rejuvenation and hope — virtues that are sorely needed today.
Nowruz celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, the victory of life over death, and the promise of a fresh beginning.
This is me from 2019. Leaping over fire during Nowruz represents the exchange of a person’s paleness, sickness and problems with the warmth and vibrancy of the fire, signifying a renewal.
Despite the political environment we are in right now, I remain hopeful for the future and committed to uplifting the diversity that makes our communities so strong.
Thank you for being a part of our work. May this Nowruz bring you happiness, peace, and prosperity.
With gratitude,
