Rep. Eskamani is Excited to Ensure our Community Has Access to Diverse Books

Orlando, FL – On Thursday, April 11th, as a part of the Little Free Library Read in Color Program, State Representative Anna V. Eskamani, 904WARD, and Global Shapers Orlando will unveil a Little Free Diverse Library (LFDL) for the community to use.

LFDLs are public bookcases that will be filled with diverse stories for adults, teens, children, and early readers to provide everyone with the opportunity to read diverse books. This LFDL will also include titles written in different languages, celebrating the diversity of House District 42 and creating inclusivity in the community.

This LFDL, by 904WARD, is also a Read in Color library, a program of Little Free Library to distribute books that provide perspectives on racism and social justice; celebrate the voices of people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and other marginalized communities; and incorporate experiences from all identities for all readers.

“I am excited to be working with phenomenal partners in opening up our own diverse Little Library at our legislative office,” said State Representative Anna V. Eskamani, “We want to make sure that our constituents of all ages have access to books that tell the stories of our diverse community.”

The Global Shapers Orlando Hub will support the event and a Community Book Drive from March 25th up to and during the installation to support Little Free Diverse Libraries across the state. Community members are invited to stop by from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM at Rep Eskamani’s District office to drop off diverse books for adults, teens, and children.

“Global Shapers Orlando and the World Economic Forum are committed to the creation of a more inclusive society where everyone- no matter the color of their skin, sexual orientation, or where they come from see themselves represented in every space, including literature”, said Cecilia Gonzalez Herrera. “Our Little Free Diverse Libraries contribute to that mission by making community and creating spaces where people can find their stories reflected in those pages of books so that they know that they belong and their voices deserve being celebrated.”
