The seventh stop on the statewide tour takes People Power for Florida to the West Coast

Today, Rep. Anna V. Eskamani is sharing that People Power For Florida (PPFF) will host its seventh Organizing Bootcamp – a youth organizing training for students –at the University of South Florida on April 5th.

Since the start of PPFF’s voter registration efforts across Florida, the organization has partnered with USF students and campus clubs to help engage students in the Tampa area. As with the previous bootcamps at UCF, FSU, UF, FIU, FAMU, and UNF, student-led organizations are partnering with PPFF to recruit and train the next generation of leaders how to build power, organize with efficiency, and share our best practices for engaging and mobilizing your peers.

USF St. Pete Planned Parenthood Generation Action, USF St. Pete College Democrats, USF College Democrats, and the University of Tampa Planned Parenthood Generation Action leadership are bringing together their members and classmates to stand in solidarity against attacks on higher education.

“During this election year, it’s extremely important to give power and resources to students so that they can make impactful change on and off campus. Coalition building is at the basis of grassroots movements, and we definitely need this at USF,” said Alexis Hobbs, who serves as the current People Power for Florida Tampa organizer, the Voter Engagement Coordinator for USFSP Democrats, and the President of USFSP’S Planned Parenthood Generation Action chapter. “The bootcamp will allow for all students – whether already involved or not – to learn and grow together and to make meaningful, powerful change in 2024.”

The bootcamp will feature interactive workshops, guest speakers, and hands-on exercises led by seasoned organizers and community leaders from the greater Tampa area. Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with peers, exchange ideas, and gain practical experience in organizing and activism. Among the featured speakers will be Ruth’s List CEO Christina Diamond, St. Pete Council Member Richie Floyd, Executive Director of Florida Voices for Health Scott Maxwell, and State Rep. Michele Rayner.

“We are thrilled to host our seventh youth organizing bootcamp at USF,” added Representative Eskamani. “It’s always so inspiring to share space with Florida’s next generation of leaders and we cannot wait to build collective power together.”
