Orlando, FL: Today Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law HB1365 into law, legislation that makes it very difficult for local communities to solve the crisis of homelessness. Here is Representative Eskamani’s statement in response:
“Property insurance rates in Florida have skyrocketed, making it increasingly difficult for families to afford homes. Rent is high, wages overall too low. Instead of addressing these crises, Governor DeSantis just signed into law a bill that will likely lead to the criminalization of homelessness. This law is going to make a bad situation worse and we should be focused on addressing the environment that creates homelessness, not punish people who have fallen into those circumstances.”
