Orlando, FL: Today, amid overwhelming opposition to judicial consolidation, a committee appointed by the Florida Supreme Court unanimously recommended against shrinking the number of judicial circuits in the state. Read more here and below is Representative Eskamani’s statement in response.
“This is a big deal — thanks to our collective advocacy the committee forced to convene by Florida Republicans to examine the consolidation of our judicial circuits shot down the idea, highlighting how such a change would diminish access to the courts. This was always an attempt by the GOP to gerrymander our judicial branch and I am glad common sense has prevailed. Now, this does not mean the fight is over — after all, we are in Florida. But this is a win for good government, for democracy and for the separation of powers in our Constitution. I am hopeful that this will put an end to partisan agendas focused on consolidation, and instead shift the policy conversation to improving our court system for all Floridians.”
