Dear Friend,

Earlier this year, Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB999/SB266, attacking diversity and freedom in higher education. Now the Board of Governors (BoG) is going above and beyond the implementation of this law with overly broad statewide rules that impose unconstitutional censorship on university campuses and seek to eliminate support for LGBTQ+ and minority students.

We must show up to the next BoG meeting and speak out against this censorship on academic freedom and exclusion.

If fully implemented without changes, the rules would completely strip state and federal funds from campus activities that “promote or engage in political or social activism” or advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion” unless otherwise required for compliance with state or federal laws. Any programs or campus activities that rely on these funds may find it impossible to move forward under these rules.

In the midst of these attacks from Tallahassee, it is still the duty of the BoG to ensure fair and equal access to higher education for all students and to uphold our constitutionally protected First Amendment freedoms.

Please join us in our call to the BoG to reject these unconstitutional rules.

Onward,

Rep. Anna V. Eskamani
