Orlando, FL: Last night Attorney General Ashley Moody filed a 39-page brief claiming that the Floridians Protecting Freedom proposal should be kept off the 2024 ballot because the wording of the ballot summary would be misleading to voters. Here is Representative Eskamani’s response:
“Attorney General Ashley Moody is desperate to ban abortion in Florida and take away the choice to preserve reproductive rights from the voters. The proposed amendment is very clear and precise in limiting government interference with abortion. The term viability is a medical one, and in the context of abortion has always meant the stage of fetal development when the life of a fetus is sustainable outside the womb through standard medical measures. This is how the State of Florida, United States Supreme Court, Florida State Supreme Court, doctors and dictionaries define viability. Any attempt to say otherwise is 100% politically motivated and not based in history or fact. I look forward to the day where we can codify abortion rights and protect personal medical decisions for Floridians.”
