Dear Friend,

By now you’ve heard the news that the Florida Legislature — after gerrymandering Congressional seats — is attempting to gerrymander our Judicial Circuits, too.

In June the Speaker of the House wrote a letter to Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Carlos Muniz asking for there to be an assessment of Florida’s 20 circuit judicial system, claiming that consolidation could make our judicial system more efficient.

In reality, this is an attempt to redraw Florida’s judicial circuit map so Republicans can put the voters they want in the places they want them — otherwise known as gerrymandering.

In late August, the Judicial Circuit Assessment Committee met in Orlando to hear feedback from the public. Everyone who spoke, and I mean everyone, expressed opposition to this idea.

You can see my remarks above and click here to read about that first meeting in Orlando.

The Judicial Circuit Assessment Committee will hold their next public hearing at 10:00 am (EDT) on Friday, October 13, 2023, in person at the George Edgecomb Courthouse, 800 E Twiggs St, Tampa, FL 33602, and virtually via Zoom. To attend participate virtually, you must register in advance. Click here to learn more.

It’s critically important that we protect our Judicial Branch from gerrymandering. Pease spread the word and do what you can to fight back.

Onward,

Rep. Eskamani
