Orlando, FL: Today the Florida State Supreme Court heard oral arguments challenging Florida’s 15 week abortion ban. Here is Representative Eskamani’s statement in response.

“Governor Ron DeSantis has stacked the court against us with appointees that have a history of anti-abortion sentiments. That was made clear today. Justices interrupted the plaintiff attorney multiple times, making their personal opinions clear — challenging not only standing, but also Florida’s right to privacy and its application to abortion access.

The court’s decision on this 15 week ban will not only impact the constitutionality of abortion access in Florida, it will also lead to Florida’s 6 week abortion ban going into effect 30 days later.

This will be devastating, not just for Floridians but for the thousands in the Southeast who have sought refuge and abortion access here in the Sunshine State.

Though my heart is heavy, our focus has never been more clear. We are going to get abortion access on the ballot in 2024 and codify this right once and for all in our state. We will continue the fight for freedom and bodily autonomy no matter what.
