Orlando, FL: A state judge struck down North Florida’s congressional districts Saturday, rebuffing Gov. Ron DeSantis’ open defiance of anti-gerrymandering protections, finding the governor’s map illegally reduced Black voters’ electoral power.
Here is Representative Eskamani’s Response:
“This is a strong win for Democracy and a strong win for Black voters in Florida. It’s critical that the redistricting process be one without partisan bias and that our maps respect Florida’s State Constitution and federal law. Though I suspect the state will appeal this decision, we should take pride in our collective efforts to protect minority representation in Florida. Major kudos to the organizations leading on this legal battle. We cannot stop now, we must keep fighting for a more free and just state.”
