Orlando, FL— Today, Representative Anna V. Eskamani released the following statement after three people were killed in a mass shooting at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida.
Representative Anna V. Eskamani:
Tonight another community is forever scarred by the terror of anti-Black gun violence in America. My heart hurts for the three innocent people that were horrifically killed and we stand ready to support their loved ones and all those impacted. Let me be clear — this was a racist hate crime. And we need Governor Ron DeSantis to stop with the race-baiting and culture wars. Under his watch, Florida has become ground zero for far-right extremism and radicalization. In Orlando we woke up to Nazi vandalism of several LGBTQ+ murals and tonight we mourn the death of three innocent people targeted for the color of their skin. This is not right — we must stop what is a deadly combination of hate and loose gun laws. I will do whatever I can to ensure that all Floridians have the freedom to be healthy, prosperous and safe.
