Our goal is to register students to vote and lead powerful conversations during move-ins

[Orlando, FL – August 14th, 2023] Today, Rep. Anna V. Eskamani announced that People Power For Florida (PPFF) will host its third annual Dorm Storms – move-in week voter registration events at seven college and university campuses across Florida.

At the start of each fall semester, People Power for Florida hosts Dorm Storms to help students register to vote for the first time, update their voter registration to their new campus address, and engage in powerful conversations about democracy in the state of Florida. This year, PPFF will have events at: FAMU, FSU, UF, UCF, USF, FIU, and Eastern Florida State College.

“I got my start in advocacy on a college campus and it’s essential that we meet with students one-on-one to make sure they’re ready and registered to vote,” said PPFF founder and State Representative Anna V. Eskamani.

During the Dorm Storms, staff and volunteers will be helping incoming students complete their voter registration both in-person and online. Volunteers will also be on hand to answer questions about voting, and offer students more ways to become civically involved.

“Dorm Storms are a great opportunity for students to get more politically involved and we are excited to work with our new Organizing Fellows to engage students on their campuses.” said Juan Ardila, Organizing Director of People Power for Florida. “This is our biggest year of dorm storms yet–and it’s only the start of our campus organizing efforts this fall.”

This announcement comes on the heels of three campus Organizing Bootcamps–trainings aimed at teaching students how to build power and effectively organize their peers–at UCF, UF, and FSU. In October, People Power for Florida will host a fourth training at Florida International University in Miami.
