In the 247 years since the founding of our nation, we’ve come far in ensuring the rights and freedoms of every person who calls the United States their home. Unfortunately this past year in Florida, we’ve seen many of our freedoms be stripped away. Having to fight for abortion access, voting rights, freedom of education, expression, and more means that we still have a long way to go in ensuring liberty for all.
Independence Day celebrates a great moment in American history. The signing of the Declaration of Independence reminds us that American democracy is founded on taking action— it’s not just a reason to celebrate. To continually protect our freedom, we have to continue to march, sign petitions, speak out, and vote!
This Independence Day, as you enjoy fireworks or a barbecue, remember to keep the real meaning of the day in your mind. At a local celebration, sign one of the many petitions for the 2024 ballot, register to vote, or just keep speaking out about the injustices happening right here in Florida! We’ll keep fighting for each other this year and beyond.
