Students at Florida Colleges and High Schools to Walk Out on Friday, April 21st
On Thursday, April 20th, Walkout 2 Learn will kick off student walkouts at colleges and high schools across Florida with a press conference at the Florida State Capitol Rotunda alongside state legislators and community leaders.
On Friday, April 21st, students in Florida are walking out of high school and college classes in reaction to Florida leaders grossly overstepping their authority, silencing teachers, and stripping students of accurate and quality instruction. During the walkouts at 12pm ET, students will learn a brief government-censored history lesson, enroll in a virtual African American history course, and have an opportunity to sign an Active Pledge, which prompts those who sign it to register to vote.
Students will hear from high-profile speakers and performers during off-campus rallies in Miami, Sarasota, Jacksonville, and Orlando at 6pm ET. Attendees will also have an opportunity to check their voter registration, sign the Active Pledge, and enroll in the African American history course.
You can also view a Facebook livestream of the press conference here.
