Every year, the month of March is recognized as Women’s History month, a time to reflect on the history of women’s suffrage, highlight breaking glass ceilings, and shed light on the current struggles that women still face today.

Women’s History Month began in 1981, when Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28 which asked the President to proclaim the week of March 7th as “Women’s History Week.” For the next 5 years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions to identify different weeks in March as “Women’s History Week.”

By 1995, Presidents had issued annual proclamations designating March as “Women’s History Month”. These proclamations identify and celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States. Women of all color, sexual orientation, religion and background have faced gender-based oppression. Yet, this did not stop women from breaking unprecedented barriers and standing up for each other.

History has hid countless women’s names and stories. From advancements in medicine and technology, to civil rights and reform, to education and sports, women have first-handedly shaped our country into what it is today.

Team Anna recognizes the struggles that all women still face today, around the state, country and world. Whether it be access to abortion, the right to an education and economic justice, Team Anna will remain dedicated to fighting for women’s rights and all of our collective freedoms.  We know that no woman can be considered free, until all of us are free!

In honor of Women’s History Month, Team Anna will be hosting a virtual panel to honor the successes we have made and discuss the progress still to come. The evening will be livestreamed at facebook.com/AnnaForFlorida and moderated by media personality Karla Ray. We will be joined by State Representatives Kristen Aston Arrington, Rita Harris, LaVon Bracy Davis, Anna V. Eskamani, and Johanna López. To learn more and RSVP, visit bit.ly/womenhistorymonth2023
