Tallahasee, FL: Today, Senate Republicans introduced a housing proposal, SB102. Below is Representative Eskamani’s initial response:
“Though I am glad to see Florida Republicans finally agree that housing affordability is an issue that should be addressed, I am disappointed to see such a heavy emphasis on what corporations and special interests want as compared to consumers. The bill smacks Orange County voters right in the face by pre-empting what was a hard fought measure to stabilize rents in our community through an emergency ordinance. The bill also does not provide any immediate relief to Florida tenants, which is where the biggest challenges lie. We need immediate action and long term solutions. I hope as the bill proceeds that balance can be struck.”
