Bipartisan Group of 26 Lawmakers Sign On to Letter Supporting Freedom Fighters in Iran
Orlando, FL: Today a group of 26 lawmakers released a bipartisan letter in support of the Iranian people that includes specific requests for federal officials to take.
You can read the full letter here.
Protests in Iran first began after the brutal murder of Mahsa (Jina) Amini in September 2022 by the so-called “morality police.” Since then, major protests have taken place while security forces have raided schools, targeted schoolgirls, and incarcerated thousands. Executions have already begun, but despite the government’s brutal crackdown Iranians have continued to rise up and fight for women, life freedom.
Representative Anna V. Eskamani is Iranian-American, and shepherded this effort within the Florida Legislature. Here is her statement:
“As an Iranian-American, I am grateful for the showing of bipartisan support for the people of Iran. We must continue to do whatever we can across party lines to push our federal representatives and the Biden Administration to secure internet access for the people of Iran, to stop executions within Iran and end unlawful arrests, and to maintain momentum around the United Nation’s independent investigation of Iran’s gross human rights violations. I urge federal representatives to become a sponsor of those imprisoned in Iran, to demand their release and support their loved ones. The Iranian people are demanding regime change and we must be their voice with the hope for a free Iran, where Women, Life, Freedom is not only a rallying cry, but a reality for all.”
Representative Eskamani also plans to file a Resolution this legislative session to continue the bipartisan momentum for a free Iran.
