For Immediate Release: August 9, 2022

Orlando, FL – In July, state analysts predicted that nearly 850 people will move to Florida daily from 2021 to 2026. This trend coupled with surging homeowner and rental costs demands that local leaders are armed with relevant data for decision-making and take action now. While Orange County explores the addition of a potential rent stabilization ordinance to ballots this November, all community members recognize the urgency to keep Floridians securely housed.

Representative Anna V. Eskamani has partnered with DataKind to host an exclusive presentation on Tuesday, August 9th (today) at 10:00am ET to share preliminary findings on local housing loss for both renters and homeowners, Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) analyses, and recommendations for future ERAP services.

DataKind is a global nonprofit that harnesses the power of data science and AI in the service of humanity. Named one of Fast Company’s 2017 Top 10 Innovative Nonprofits, DataKind engages pro-bono data scientists and leading social change organizations on projects that address critical humanitarian problems and drive the conversation about how machine learning and AI can be applied to solve the world’s biggest challenges.

This conversation will include a demonstration of work that DataKind and Bright Community Trust have been collaborating on for the past six months to target rental assistance dollars to communities in need and a discussion of how this tooling can be made accessible and sustainable for local legislators, administrators, and activists.

Join us this morning at 10:00am ET to discover the latest insights on Central Florida housing loss as well as opportunities to improve housing stability for all.
