Featuring Yoseline Rodriguez, Service Learning Director at Hope CommUnity Center
Orlando, FL – It is essential to embrace conversations around immigrant heritage to honor those who have come before us and to enrich our communities for the future. Representative Anna V. Eskamani will host a virtual event on Wednesday, June 29th from 4:00PM – 4:30PM in honor of Immigrant Heritage Month, which is recognized throughout the month of June.
Immigrant Heritage Month has been observed in June in the United States since 2014, honoring the endless contributions, treasured history, and unique cultures of immigrant communities. This month allows those across the United States to annually explore their own heritage as well as celebrate the shared diversity that forms the unique story of America.
According to the American Immigration Council, one in five residents in Florida was born in another country. Immigrants are the backbone of our state’s economy and culture, yet unfortunately, can often face undue hardship in access to services like documentation, healthcare, and other basic needs as simple as obtaining a driver’s license.
Yoseline Rodriguez of the Hope CommUnity Center will join this virtual program to discuss local services and lend a deeper perspective into the lived experience of immigrants in Central Florida. The Hope CommUnity Center assists over 12,000 people a year with an objective of empowering immigrants to help dismantle all systems of oppression across four counties.
The agenda will explore advocacy issues, bring awareness to health disparities within immigrant communities, including reproductive care and abortion access post-Roe, and examine ways that state policy can be more culturally competent and inclusive for all Floridians. Join us today to recognize Immigrant Heritage Month across Florida.
