On June 6, 2020 a tornado impacted the Orlando Ferncreek community. The National Weather Service Melbourne Damage Survey confirmed that a waterspout/tornado moved north along a 5.1 mile path from Lake Conway to Thornton Park. The peak intensity was estimated at 100-105 mph. Fortunately no one was hurt, but 50 individuals have been displaced, cars have been destroyed, and many homes are inhabitable.
Because this natural disaster was small compared to others Florida has seen, there is currently no coordinated state or federal response, meaning that local governments, nonprofits, and communities are charged with recovery efforts.
The American Red Cross is playing a major role in delivering relief services and we encourage you to call them at 407-894-4141 if you are in need of assistance. Even if the Red Cross has already helped you, it is worth calling again if new needs arise.
Below we are sharing several GoFundMe pages for tornado relief created by individual families. Representative Eskamani has already donated over $1,500 to individual families in need and asks that you dig deep to help our neighbors.
If your GoFundMe campaign is not here, and/or you are in need of assistance, do not hesitate to contact Representative Eskamani at anna.eskamani@myfloridahouse.gov.
My sister, Jennifer South, lost her Orlando home in a tornado last night. This home housed her entire world, including her daughter Bailey (my niece) and Bailey’s two month old daughter (Jenn’s granddaughter), Aliya. We are fortunate that none of them were harmed.
This morning, the fire marshal condemned the home and all have been ordered not to enter it. The structure is not secure and could fall at any moment. Everything they know is lost. All baby supplies (bottles, clothes, diapers, etc), their only family photos of Bailey with her late dad (who passed away 2 months ago), basic daily necessities like my sister’s seizure medication, her contacts and glasses, her computer and passwords—are all gone. She doesn’t know where to start today. And, as her family, neither do we.
Hello everyone
yesterday June 6th a massive tornado hit our community of Lake Margaret. A tornado came in a destroyed our home, took our roof out and everything inside of it. In a matter of seconds we lost everything we worked so hard
for. Unfortunately we lost our condos and everything else inside of it. Our home was identified as a complete loss. Unfortunately we don’t have rentals Inssurance and lost everything we have worked so hard.We are asking any donation to be able to get through these difficult times and get back on our feet. We appreciate all the help we can get and May God bless you
A tornado directly hit our home and destroyed pretty much everything inside! Any help is greatly appreciated. Recently, my brother Tom lost his wife to cancer and we moved into a new home with his ten year old son. We have not had a chance to purchase renter’s insurance. Any help is much appreciated. If you’re unable to contribute financially we understand. Please pray for us! Thank you.
On June 6th at approximately 7:00 PM an F-1 Tornado ripped through the area of Orlando known as Conway. In its wake, it hit some apartments tearing off their roofs, breaking out windows, strewing belongings everywhere.
Pamela Cordero and her two children, Alana age 13, and Malakai age 6, were in their apartment and gratefully spared. Their apartment lost its roof and also their windows were broken and much of their belongings lost as well.
Please follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Representative Eskamani will continue to share updates until all Central Floridians have recovered from this tornado.
