Orlando, FL: The Florida Legislature is calling another Special Session targeting the immigrant community. Below is Representative Dr. Anna V. Eskamani’s statement in response.
“Yet again, Governor Ron DeSantis and legislative leadership are wasting taxpayer dollars on a last-minute special session designed to divide Floridians instead of addressing our state’s real challenges. While families are struggling with skyrocketing housing costs, unaffordable property insurance, and stagnant wages, Republican leadership is more focused on attacking immigrants and rolling back opportunities for Dreamers.
This is not how we should be governing. These rushed special sessions leave no room for public input or thoughtful policymaking. Instead of working on bipartisan solutions to our economic crises, they are doubling down on cruel, politically motivated attacks—this time by trying to strip in-state tuition from Dreamers who have lived, studied, and contributed to our communities for years.
Immigrants are an essential part of Florida’s economy, and targeting them isn’t just heartless—it’s bad for business. It’s time to stop the political stunts and start governing for all Floridians. I will continue to fight for a Florida that puts people over politics and ensures that every resident has the opportunity to succeed.”
