Dear Friend,

Hurricane Fiona slammed into southwestern Puerto Rico on Sunday, wiping out the power grid and cutting off clean water to most of the island’s residents. Hurricane Fiona continues to make landfall throughout the Caribbean too.

This blackout and devastation comes almost exactly five years after Puerto Rico’s power grid was devastated by Hurricane María in September 2017, leaving many residents without electricity for months.

President Biden has already declared an emergency in Puerto Rico, calling on both the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to coordinate disaster relief efforts for residents.

Many Floridians have asked for ways to help. Check out this non-exhaustive list of organizations who are on the ground in Puerto Rico that you can donate towards, and please let us know what we can do to support you.

Onward,

Rep. Anna V. Eskamani
