Sister Honey’s, established in 2012, is a Blue Ribbon award-winning bakery located at 247 E. Michigan Street, Orlando, Florida. With everything from cake, to pies, to cookies, founder and owner Evette Rahman was kind enough to answer some questions about her sweet HD47 business!

What do you love most about having a small business in House District 47?

The area is not overly populated and has a small town feel. We are happy to be able to develop great personal relationships with customers.

What inspired you to begin Sister Honey’s and what keeps you going now?

My mom and dad loved to cook. Growing up, preparing food was a joy and a main focus in our home. I was drawn to that family activity. Experimenting and creating delicious food is a driving force that keeps me going.

What advice would you give to someone else wanting to open a small business?

For people who have that entrepreneurial spirit, it is wise to make a detailed plan, especially entering the food industry. It may be time-consuming as well as exhausting for several years. There will be unexpected challenges, but hard work will bring accomplishments with a sense of personal success and pride.

What are some of customers’ favorite items from your business?

Everything is popular. We are fortunate that there is constant demand for our products. People love coconut cake, pistachio cake, brown sugar pound cake, hummingbird cake, rum cake, strawberry cream pie, key lime pie, cupcakes and our cookies, just to name a few!
