Dear Friend,
Amendment 4 secured 57% of voter support. Though that was not enough to amend Florida’s State Constitution, it is still a historic outcome that demonstrates how the majority of Floridians reject the state’s near-total abortion ban. Amendment 4 has also earned more than 1 million votes than Governor DeSantis did in 2022.
The Florida Legislature and Governor Ron DeSantis — who spent public money to campaign against Amendment 4— should take these results as a clear rejection of their extremism and as a direct call to repeal Florida’s 6-week abortion ban. It should also hinder any further attacks on reproductive health via the Florida Legislature.
Our movement for Floridians’ rights and freedoms remains more vital than ever.
This result is disappointing, but it’s not the end of our fight for a more inclusive Florida that cares about the health and well-being of women and abortion seekers.
We owe so much to the volunteers, advocates, medical professionals, and every Floridian who stood with us, making thousands of calls, knocking on doors, sharing their personal stories of abortion, and earning support for what was still a historic initiative for reproductive freedom and women’s rights.
The infrastructure built around Amendment 4 must be maintained so that we can continue this fight into the legislative session and beyond.
If you’re upset right now, I am, too. If you’re exhausted, I can relate. The national election outcome only makes this bad situation worse for Floridians and Americans across the country.
But we must take that righteous anger and recommit ourselves to repealing Florida’s 6-week abortion ban, supporting abortion funds, defending all of our freedoms long-term.
The result of the Amendment 4 ballot initiative only strengthens my resolve to protect and uplift every Floridian’s voice and reproductive rights. Together, we’ll regroup, refocus, and press forward for the future we believe in. If you’re not involved in this work, we need you now. Sign up to volunteer here and donate to an abortion fund right now.
Thank you for standing with us — don’t give up or be deterred. Please find time to take care of yourself, too.
Onward,
