Orlando, FL: MomsRising and Representative Eskamani’s campaign announced today that the candidate has earned a Child Care Seal of Approval from MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families. She is the first candidate for public office in Florida to earn a Child Care Seal of Approval so far this year.
Finding high quality, affordable child care is one of the greatest challenges facing young families in the United States. Child care costs more than public college tuition in many states and nearly half of Americans live in child care deserts, where there is a significant shortage of providers, according to the National Association for the Education of Young Children. As a result, millions of moms and caregivers have been forced out of the workforce, jeopardizing their financial security, exacerbating our labor shortage and supply chain problems and causing grave harm to our economy. At the same time, the early educators are terribly underpaid, with many child care workers leaving the field because they can make higher wages in fast food or other sectors.
MomsRising’s mom-made, mom-approved Child Care Seal of Approval was created in 2024 to raise the profile of child care as a campaign issue at the local, state, and national levels and to challenge candidates to commit to child care solutions that meet the standards of America’s moms. The ultimate goal is to elect more officials who will advance high quality, affordable child care.
“I am deeply honored to receive the Child Care Seal of Approval from MomsRising,” Representative Eskamani stated. “This recognition affirms my commitment to fighting relentlessly for increased state child care funding and creative solutions that can help ensure that parents can balance work and family, child care workers earn a living wage, and essential programs remain operational.”
“Moms, parents, and families across the nation are joining MomsRising in saying we are ready to Mom the Vote for child care. We will only end the child care crisis that is costing families, businesses, and our economy so dearly if we elect leaders with a real commitment to finding solutions,” said MomsRising Executive Director and CEO Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner. “We applaud Rep. Eskamani, and every candidate who has earned the Child Care Seal of Approval. Our future really is in their hands.”
