Orlando, FL: In March, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine et al v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration et al., a case that threatened access to mifepristone, a safe, effective medication.

Mifepristone has been FDA-approved for more than 23 years and is one of two medicines most commonly used in medication abortion in the United States. Availability of mifepristone — particularly through telemedicine — is essential to ensure people have access to abortion.

Below is Representative Eskamani’s statement based on today’s Supreme Court Decision:

Any attack on mifepristone is a gross injustice designed to harm millions of people. Today’s decision out of the United States Supreme Court demonstrates how extreme anti-abortion extremists have become that even conservative justices won’t go along with their cruel agenda. Decisions about the safety and effectiveness of medicines should be left up to the FDA and I am glad to see the Supreme Court agrees. Freedom is the ability to make decisions about your body, life and future. Mifepristone helps make that a reality. It must remain FDA-approved and available. We will continue the fight to protect access to abortion and reproductive health care in Florida and beyond.
