Dear Friend,
On the last day of Florida’s 2024 legislative session, House Bill 433 (Workplace heat preemption) was passed.
This bill is anti-worker and anti-heat stress protection for Florida’s outdoor workers, and it was passed due to the influence of special corporate interests who oppose heat stress protection legislation that would have offered the most basic and necessary safety requirements for workers who do some of the hardest labor in our state.
From farmworkers, to construction jobs, landscapers and others — those who work outside deserve our support, not policies that endanger them. Below is a clip from the House Floor where I attempted to amend this bill in honor of a Floridian who lost his life due to heat stress. That amendment ultimately failed.
In recognition of the amazing work of our farmworker community here in the Sunshine State, I am donating $2,500 from our political committee to the Farmworker Association of Florida and I encourage you to not only support their work by clicking here, but sign this petition asking the Governor to veto HB433.
This dangerous bill is currently sitting on the Governor’s desk and is awaiting his signature. If signed, the bill would go into effect on July 1, 2024.
We are calling on all who care about the dignity, worth, and value of the hardworking people in our state, especially and including those who perform the work we all depend on every day, to tell the Governor to VETO HB 433 now!
Onward,
Rep. Anna V. Eskamani
