Orlando, FL: Today immigrant rights organizations across the State of Florida are calling for businesses to close, workers to stay home, and everyday people not to purchase items in the Sunshine State as a means to demonstrate solidarity with immigrant families. This is in response to the Governor signing SB1718 into law, an extreme anti-immigrant law that is scheduled to go into effect on July 1st. Below is Representative Eskamani’s statement in response.
“As a daughter of immigrants, I stand in complete solidarity with our immigrant community and all of those who are on strike today. Immigrants are the back bone of our state economy and are essential to the health and success of our state. From our farmworkers, construction workers, service workers to our doctors, scientists, and engineers: immigrants get the job done, and it is disgusting to demonize and target a community for political gain which is exactly what Governor Ron DeSantis has done and is doing.”
