Orange County lawmakers want Governor DeSantis to Move On and Focus on Real Issues
Tallahassee, FL: Today Governor Ron DeSantis announced more random policy proposals to target Walt Disney World as he continues his attempt to weaponize government to target a company that once expressed opposition to the Governor’s anti-LGBTQ+ agenda. Below is the response from four Orange County Lawmakers.
Representative LaVon Bracy Davis (D-40): I’m focused on passing the Tyre Sampson Act to keep Floridians and visitors safe on amusement park rides. Public safety shouldn’t be used as a weapon against any theme Park as part of political punishment. I think the Governor should focus his attentions more on issues that matter to the pocketbooks of Floridians. Our state is currently in an affordability crisis as it relates to housing, insurance and health care. These are the issues that deserve the spotlight.
Representative Anna V. Eskamani (D-42): Governor DeSantis once again demonstrates during his latest attempt to target Walt Disney World that this has nothing to do with corporate accountability and everything to do with his own ego and attempt to get a “win” for his GOP base. If he actually wanted to champion corporate accountability, then close corporate tax loopholes with policies like combined reporting. We have those policy solutions, but this isn’t it!
Representative Johanna López (D-43): Governor DeSantis’ presser today shows that he puts his personal vendetta and political ambitions first, and the needs of Floridians and our economy last. Using tax payer dollars to carry out a full on war against Disney, one of the state’s biggest employers, while people in South Florida are flooded is unacceptable and despicable.
Representative Rita Harris (D-44): I am concerned that the punitive actions of the Governor will have unintended consequences on Florida’s vibrant tourism industry which will in turn have a negative impact on the state’s economy, overall. Many of my constituents work at Disney, and this could put undue burden on them. The legislature should not be penalizing them with increased tolls. Every day people, trying to make a living, don’t deserve the negative impact these proposed changes will bring.
