Eskamani Invited to Collaborative Space of Lawmakers from Across the Country

Washington, DC: Today Representative Anna V. Eskamani will join White House officials and fellow state lawmakers for a collaborative conversation focused on the fight for LGBTQ+ equality. The room will include legislators from red states and blue states and part of the discussion will center on ways legislators can work in lockstep alongside advocacy groups and the White House to defend LGBTQ+ people and equality.

“As a hetero person, it is my job to go beyond allyship and to be an accomplice to the LGBTQ+ community,” said Representative Eskamani. “I appreciate the opportunity to convene and strategize with other lawmakers at the White House as we prepare for battle this legislative session.”

This year, Florida has seen a visible increase of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and harassment. In fact, a drag queen story time event in Orlando was canceled due to Nazis targeting the event. Nazis just last weekend targeted a drag show event in Lakeland. Meanwhile, books that mention LGBTQ+ characters are being canceled in school districts and trans kids are being erased by the state’s Board of Medicine.

“Now is the time to step up and defend equality,” added Representative Eskamani. “We will not go back.”
